My name is Neill White and I’m a data scientist and software engineer.
The term ‘data scientist’ is still relatively new and there are certainly sub-fields of data science that are specialties. But, to me, a data scientist is able to wear quite a few different hats comfortably – from mathematics and computer science to domain expertise. In the data science stack, I am always drawn to the area that offers the most to gain. Often, and almost always initially, this is in the data engineering sub-specialty. Simply put, you first have to have the data.

The data science process – going from raw data to feature engineering to model building to refinement and ultimate model selection is immensely rewarding.
Outside of data science and machine learning, I enjoy spending time with my wife, watching my boys play soccer, talking to them about EPL football, playing Minecraft with my daughter, and protecting our dog from our three cats.
